What is Media Access Control Address (MAC Address) ?
A Media Access Control (MAC) Address of a System is a Unique Address/ Identifier ,assigned to Network Interfaces for Communications at the Data Link Layer of Network Segment.The First Check for who the Data is for is done at Data Link Layer. MAC addresses are used as a Network Address for most IEEE 802 Network Technologies, including Ethernet and WiFi.MAC Addresses are used in the Media Access Control Protocol Sublayer of the OSI Reference Model.MAC addresses are mostly assigned by the Manufacturer of a Network Interface Controller (NIC) and are Stored in its Hardware, such as in the Card’s,Read Only Memory(ROM). They are also Referred to as the Burned-In Address (BIA).

How to Find MAC Address of Your System ?

A)How to Find MAC Address in Windows (Any Version) 

1)Type ” cmd ” in the Search Box and Right Click on the the CMD Icon and select Run as Administrator Option or you can Simply Press Ctrl+Shift+Enter on the CMD Icon and Choose Yes.

2)Type ” getmac /v /fo list ” Command in the CMD Window and Press Enter to get the MAC Addresses of the Different Network Interface Cards Connected to your Computer.


3)Now a List of MAC Addresses will be Shown in the CMD Window.Check your Connection Type(i.e How you are Connected to Internet via LAN,Ethernet,Wifi,etc) and See the MAC Address of that Network Interface Card.


B)How to Find MAC Address in Mac OS’s ::


a)MAC OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and Newer :


1)Click on the Apple Icon at the Top Left Corner o the Screen and then Click on the System Preferences.


2)Choose Network and then Choose built-in Ethernet or AirPort Depending upon How you Access your Network.


3) For Ethernet :


Click Advanced and navigate to the Ethernet tab. At the top you will see the Ethernet ID, which is your MAC address.


For AirPort :


Click Advanced and navigate to the AirPort tab. There you will see the AirPort ID, which is your MAC address.


b)Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and Older :


1)Click on the Apple Icon at the Top Left Corner o the Screen and then Click on the System Preferences.


2)Click on the Network Option.


3)Select the Network Connection from the Show Menu. Select your Connection Type either Ethernet or AirPort connection .


4)Click on the Appropriate Tab(i.e If you Chosen Ethernet then Ethernet Tab and if you have chosen AirPort Connection then AirPort Tab).


C)How to Find MAC Address in Linux :


1)Open up the Terminal.


2)Type ” ifconfig -a | grep HWaddr ” Command in the Terminal and Press Enter.


3)It will Show you the Hardware Address/MAC Address.


D)How to Find MAC Address in Android :


1)Tap on the Settings Icon in your Android Smart Phone.


2)Scroll Down your Screen and Search for About Device and Tap on it.


3)Now here Search for Status Option and Tap on it.


4)Here, Search for MAC Address, it will be Directly Written below Wi-Fi MAC Address.


E)How to Find MAC Address in IPhone,IPad and IPod :


1)Tap on the Settings Icon and Select General category.


2)Now Tap on About and Search for MAC Address, it will be Directly Written in front of Wi-Fi Address.
